The Solid Rocket Motor Analysis Tool

Introduction

SPP is the JANNAF Standard computer program for the prediction of nozzle and motor performance of solid propellant rocket motors. SPP’04™ is a super set of the last government release of SPP in 1993.

The SPP’04^TM nozzle module analyzes and summarizes the performance loss mechanisms into five categories:

• Finite Rate Chemical Kinetics
• Two Phase and Two Dimensional Effects
• Combustion Efficiency
• Throat Erosion
• Boundary Layer Losses

 In addition SPP’04™ contains a complete Grain Design and Internal Ballistics capability. Features include:

• Four separate grain design modules
• Two internal ballistics modules
• The grain design modules are internally linked with the one-dimensional motor ballistics modules
• Macros to assist in describing standard grain designs shapes
• Dual propellant capability
• Ballistic anomaly or BARF capability
• Propellant burn back animation

The SPP’04^TM code also contains the JANNAF Standard Stability Program (SSP) which is automatically linked to the Grain Design and Ballistics modules.

A linkage program to the Standard Plume Flowfield (SPF) is also included.

Some of the standard grain design shapes included as macros are:

• Stars
• Conocyls
• Dendrites
• Dogbone
• Wagonwheel
• Finocyls

Some of the other features of SPP’04™ are:

• Uses the ODE/CET module to calculate ideal nozzle performance.
• Uses the ODK module to calculate the finite rate gas phase chemistry losses.
• Uses and TD2P module to calculate the divergence and particle losses.
• Provides a post processor with color graphics.
• The post processor supports PostScript and HP LaserJet hard copies.
• Includes the calculation of ionic species in the ODE/ODK modules.
• Provides an interface for the JANNAF standard plume code SPF3 version 3.2.
• Improved SSP linkage and capability. The axial mode SSP is now linked to the 3-D grain design module.
